Volunteer With Us

We have over 80 volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the Foodbank running. Our volunteer base includes local people from all walks of life; part-time or shift workers, local councillors, representatives from a wide range of faith communities, local parents, retired workers (our eldest volunteer is 82!) and Foodbank guests themselves.

Our team of volunteers help by sorting food donations, packing food parcels, preparing refreshments, discussing the food needs of our guests as well as chatting with guests more informally. A team of volunteers also collect bread, pastries and other provisions from local supermarkets on Wednesday evenings, through our membership of the Fareshare scheme, and through Neighbourly.

On Thursday mornings, we set up the Foodbank early before welcoming the guests, run the Foodbank from 9.30 – 11.45 then pack everything away afterwards – so whether you’re an early bird who can help with set-up, or would like to pack guests’ bags and interact with guests, or would enjoy a work-out lifting crates and chairs as we pack away after the session – there’s a job for everyone!

Volunteers also carry out essential admin tasks such as social media updates, awareness-raising and fundraising – in fact, if you have skills in these areas and would like to help out, even if you can’t volunteer in person, we’d like to hear from you too.
